Letters of Commendations from Fire Chief Friedel and Assistant Fire Chief Rhoades were presented to Captain Kirk Morris, Captain Paul Jenkins, Driver Keith Gillette, and Firefighter Matt Johnson for their actions on October 28th 2008. At approximately 7:40 a.m. Engine 1 and Engine 3 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Elwood north of 101st. Upon arrival both engine companies encountered a two car collision with one of the vehicles on its side. As a result of this accident there were a total of seven patients, five of which, had been ejected from their vehicles. A mass casualty, incident, such as this, requires many tasks to be completed simultaneously and therefore must be handled by quick decisions and actions. Survey of the scene, establishing command, extrication of the patients, triage and treatment of the patients as well as other important duties were required of these men. Due to excellent decision making and performance both crews are recognized for the efforts that day.
