Swift Water Training
Jenks Firefighters recently completed Swift Water Training. Firefighters particapted in 3 days of training that covered Rope Skills & Techniques, Water Dynamics & River Hazards, Medical considerations, and Water Rescue Skills. Several hours were spent in a classroom setting at Station 2 but most of the class was actual on scene training in the Arkansas River and at Veterans Park. The training was provided by Rescue 3 International and the instructors flew in from Colorado to teach the 3 day class. Jenks Fire Rescue was awarded a grant several months ago that payed for the training and equipment. Much more Water Rescue Training is expected in the near future. New Rookies Complete Training

Jenks Fire Rescue hired 4 new firefighters in December to fill empty positions on the department. During an intense 6 weeks of training the firefighters underwent training in Search & Rescue, Fire Supression, Vehicle Extrication, EMS, Haz-Mat, Etc. They have now been assigned to shift work and will coninue on with more training with their crews.

EMT Training

The Jenks Fire Department has upgraded EMS services from First Responder to EMT Basic and EMT Intermediate. The Jenks Firefighters have completed an EMT Basic Class with a few Firefighters completing EMT Intermediate. EMT Intermediate class started in October and was completed in December. The EMT Basic course started in September and was also completed in December. Along with the EMT Classes, firefighters have also been certified to be CPR and Basic Life Support Instructors with the American Heart Association. Firefighter/EMT Kyle Flora has finished an EMT Instructor course and is currently teaching First Responder to the Jenks Police Dept. In 2009 there will be several more advances in training for Firefighters, including another possible EMT Intermediate class. Chief Gary Friedel has recently added Jake Rhoades as his new Assistant Chief. Chief Rhoades comes to Jenks from Stillwater Fire Department where he was the Training Officer for the entire Department with national recognition for his work. The Jenks Firefighters welcome the addition of Assistant Chief Rhoades and are excited about the future and the continuing plans to improve our department.

2008 Pre-Prom Alcohol Awareness Demonstration

The Jenks Fire Department recently participated in a Pre-Prom Alcohol Awareness Demonstration at Jenks High School to show the realities of drinking and driving. Jenks firefighters along with Jenks Police, EMSA, Life Flight, and a local funeral home were apart of the Demonstration.
